My capstone paper (MMH-Norwich 2020) focused on the question, “Why did the British respond to the 1916 Easter Rising with extensive urban warfare, executions, and mass imprisonment?” I argued that the British did so because the Easter Rising came at a time of crisis for Great Britain, apparently had German support, and challenge British Imperial Unity at a time of significant political, military, and cultural transformation.
