Violet has a B.A. from the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Houston, and an M.A. and PhD. in British and American literature from Texas A&M University. She wrote her master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation on the plays of Sean O’Casey, stressing the influence of avian fables and folktales on the Dublin trilogy and the solar myths from ancient and medieval traditions on the exile plays. Her articles and essays have appeared in several journals, including The O’Casey Annual, Eire-Ireland, Language and Literature, and the Irish Times. As founder and executive director of Pantagleize Theatre Co. in Fort Worth, Texas she emphasized classic Irish plays, and in 2012, the Fort Worth Weekly awarded the group their Critics’ Choice prize for that overall endeavor. Her historical drama More Dear Than Gold, about the Irish patriots of the Texas Revolution of 1836, has been performed in several venues in both countries. Her Panto play The King Stag of the Fairy Forest also features an Irish theme, as does her historical comedy, Oscar Wilde and the Rose of San Antone.
