Also in 2022 “The Beat Cop: Chicago’s Chief O’Neill and the Creation of Irish music,” a biography of Francis O’Neill, who left Ireland at 17 and ended up as Chief of police in Chicago by 1901. O’Neill was an obsessive collector of Irish traditional music and the book is about the relation between policing and “culture making.”
