I have written about Irish historic and contemporary issues for more than 25 years at popular newspapers and magazines, academic journals, and websites, including more than 1,000 entries on my blog, markholan.org, since 2012. I specialize in exploring how the US press covered the Irish revolutionary period of the early 20th century. I have presented original research (live and virtually) before ACIS; American Journalism Historians Association; American Irish Historical Society in New York City, Newspaper and Periodical History Forum of Ireland (Sadly, dark since COVID.); and at several museums. I hold Irish citizenship/passport via my Kerry emigrant grandparents and have traveled to Ireland more than a dozen times, including via a German Marshall Fund Journalism Fellowship.
