Brigid Kennedy graduated from Michigan State University’s James Madison College in 2018 with a bachelor’s in Comparative Cultures and Politics, and in 2019 from the University of Chicago with a master’s in Cinema and Media Studies. Her bachelor’s thesis analyzed Irish (and Irish-language) media coverage of women prisoners in internment, and her master’s thesis studied camp and materiality in post-Troubles history films. She has published an analysis of prison poetry and Republican identity and a backgrounder on Brexit’s effect on the border in an American public policy blog. She presented her ongoing research on Unionist meme pages and their connections to the American “Alt_Right” at the University of Chicago Media Wars Public Symposium. She is primarily interested in memory, nationalism, and representations of Irish history and republicanism on screen, particularly when they overlap with representations of queerness.
