Anne Groutel holds a PhD in the field of British and Irish studies. She is a Reader in economic English at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. She defended her doctoral dissertation on the “Economic Cooperation between the Two Irelands” in 2000 at the University of Caen Basse-Normandie (France), which was subsequently published in print and online in 2003 (https://books.openedition.org/puc/655?format=toc). More recently, she authored a book titled “Les deux Irlandes et la diaspora, un attachement intéressé” (The Two Irelands and the Diaspora: A Self-Interested Attachment), published in print and online by Presses Universitaires de Caen in 2021 (https://books.openedition.org/puc/13872?lang=fr).

She successfully defended her “habilitation à diriger des recherches” (HDR) thesis on March 31st, 2022. The HDR is a prestigious degree granted by universities and recognized by higher education institutions. It is required for supervising PhD students and attaining the position of Professeur des Universités.

She is a researcher at the Center for Research on the English-speaking World (CREW) – Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. Her research currently focuses on aspects of Ireland’s foreign policy (including relations with Northern Ireland and Britain); the evolution of the role of the State and other actors (with a particular emphasis on the Irish diaspora) within the Irish economy amidst globalization; the US-Ireland transatlantic economic relationship in the 21st century.

She is a member of the scientific committee of GIS EIRE: Etudes Irlandaises, Réseaux et Enjeux, where she co-directs, with Dr Grainne O’Keeffe-Vigneron (Rennes 2 University), one of the strands of research titled: Repositioning Ireland in the World: Old Configurations, New Realities.

She is also a member of The French Society of Irish Studies (SOFEIR), the European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies (EFACIS), the Canadian Association of Irish Studies (CAIS) and of the Center for Research on the English-speaking World.
