Enda Duffy, from Loughglynn, Co. Roscommon, holds a B.Ed from the National University of Ireland and a PhD from Harvard University. He is Professor of English at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he has recently been Arnhold Dept. Chair. He is the author of _The Subaltern Ulysses_ and _The Speed Handbook: Velocity, Pleasure, Modernism_ , and co-editor of _Joyce, Benjamin and Magical Urbanism_, most recently, of a book from Edinburgh on _Katherine Mansfield’s Bliss and Other Stories_. He has published many essays on Joyce, modernist culture, and materialist critique, and Irish literature and culture. Two projects are in process: Wild Irish: The Emigrant People’s History of Irish Literature, and a book on human and global energy in modern culture.
