The College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure track) in the field of Irish Studies, with a broad focus on Ireland, Irish-America, and/or the global Irish diaspora. The appointment can be made in any academic discipline, with special consideration given to applicants in History, Music, Theatre, Art, or Linguistics. This position is located on the Statesboro campus, but will also include responsibilities on the Armstrong campus.

Within this setting, the successful candidate will work closely with the University’s highly acclaimed Center for Irish Research and Teaching (CIRT) to develop academic programming that serves the Center’s interdisciplinary offerings, its research and study abroad programs, and its outreach initiatives. Embracing the ideal that, for each discipline, a sequence of full-credit courses should be available, CIRT offers a comprehensive suite of courses in Irish and Irish-American areas of focus.Committed to the economic and cultural advancement of Georgia’s Coastal Region,CIRT partners with multiple Irish-heritage organizations in the Savannah-Hilton Head area;the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee; the Savannah Economic Development Authority/World Trade Center Savannah; and the Atlanta-based Consulate of Ireland for the Southeastern United States.
Position Description. Reporting to the academic area’s Department Chair, the Assistant or Associate Professor of Irish Studies requires a record of outstanding teaching and a demonstrated ability to become a scholar in his or her field. The teaching load is a 3-3 assignment. The position is a nine-month, tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned PhD in any area of Irish Studies, or a closely related field within the College of Arts and Humanities, by August 1, 2019.
- Applicants must be willing to work across disciplinary boundaries to meet the mission of the interdisciplinary nature of the program.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
- Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent record of teaching experience in pertinent academic area
- Demonstrated ability to establish a record of outstanding scholarly achievement
- Assistant Professor is preferred, but junior Associate rank will also be considered. Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.Screening of applications begins November 18, 2018, and continues until the position is filled.
