Please join us on Friday, September 11th in Faculty house to hear our guest speaker, Prof. Michael Parker. He will be presenting a paper entitled “Out of the Blue: Seamus Heaney’s Poetic Responses to 9/11 and its Aftermath.”
Michael Parker is the 2015 Fort Foundation Visiting Scholar at Columbus State University, Georgia. An Emeritus Professor of English Literature, he is a part-time tutor in Oxford University’s Department of Continuing Education. His books include Seamus Heaney: The Making of the Poet, The Hurt World: Short Stories of the Troubles, Contemporary Irish Fiction, Northern Irish Literature 1956-2006 and William Trevor: Revaluations. His next book will be Seamus Heaney: Legacies, Afterlives, due out from Palgrave Macmillan in 2016.
We will meet as usual at Columbia’s Faculty House, 400 W. 117th St. The social gathering will begin downstairs around 6 o’clock, with a buffet dinner following at 7, and the talk promptly at 8pm.
