ACIS Logo Columbia University Irish Studies Seminar, October 2, 2015

Please join us on Friday, October 2nd in Faculty house to hear our guest speaker, Dr. Mindi McMann. She will be presenting a paper entitled “Black Ireland: Imagining Immigration in Ireland.”
Mindi McMann is an assistant professor of English at The College of New Jersey. Her research and teaching interests focus on the intersections of literature, politics, ethics, and nationalism, using contemporary British and Anglophone literature as the center point of her work. More specifically, her work addresses the ways in which literature both shapes and represents shifting national identities in a globalized context based on a range of factors such as race, ethnicity, class, and religion. Both her work and teaching continue to explore perceptions of alterity in South Africa, the Caribbean, Ireland, and Britain.
We will meet as usual at Columbia’s Faculty House, 400 W. 117th St. The social gathering will begin downstairs around 6 o’clock, with a buffet dinner following at 7, and the talk promptly at 8pm. Please RSVP to our Arden Hegele (aah2155@columbia.edu) by Tuesday, September 29th, if you would like to attend dinner, which is $25 per person, payable only by check (made out to Columbia University, with “dinner sem 535” in the memo line). No reservation necessary to attend the talk, which is free of charge. We very much hope to see you there.
