The next talk for the Columbia Irish Studies Seminar will take place on Friday March 7, 2014, and will feature Mairéad Pratschke, “Look at Ireland: The Gael-Linn Amharc Éireann Documentary and News Film Series, 1956-1964.” As usual, the seminar will meet at 7pm in Faculty House for dinner, and the talk will commence in an adjacent room at 8pm.
Mairéad Pratschke is a faculty member in the Department of History at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her work has appeared in the journals National Identities and the New Hibernia Review, and in Ireland in Focus: Film, Photography and Popular Culture, a collection published by Syracuse University Press. She is currently working on films made during the Celtic Tiger era and has an article forthcoming on that topic in the Italian Journal of Irish Studies.
Please RSVP to Annie Holt, rapporteur, by Tuesday, March 4, if you would like to attend dinner, which is $25 per person, payable only by check (made out to Columbia University, with “dinner sem 535” in the memo line). No reservation necessary to attend the talk, which is free of charge.
