The 2015 national meeting of the American Conference for Irish Studies will be hosted by the University of Miami and will take place in Ft. Lauderdale from March 25-28, 2015. We welcome proposals for individual papers and panels focusing on any and all aspects of Irish Studies. Papers and panels that address the conference theme, “Irish Speculations: Space, Time, History,” are especially welcome. How does “speculation”—artistic, critical, technological, political, historical, theoretical, economic, or otherwise—continually shape and re-shape the way we conceive the relationships between Irish geographies, temporalities, and histories? What role has speculation played, and what role does it continue to play, in the development of Ireland’s cultural/political identities, as well as in the expanding network of interpretive practices we use to understand and reconfigure them? The conference organizers invite scholars to submit paper/panel proposals that examine the dynamic effect of speculative thinking on Irish and/or Irish diaspora literature, history, politics, economics, and culture.

Both individual paper and panel submissions (3–4 participants) are welcomed, as are proposals for presentations in non-traditional formats (for instance, roundtables, discussion groups, or seminars). Paper proposals should be 250 words in length, and should include a brief (50-word) bio of the submitter. Panel proposals should be 250-500 words in length and include a description of the panel as well as brief descriptions of each paper and short bios for each participant.
